Martin d'Orgeval........TOUCHED BY FIRE

Martin d'Orgeval
TOUCHED BY FIRE
Editions Steidl
146 pages

On February 1, 2008 at 5 a.m., a fire ripped through the historic entomology and taxidery shop in the heart of Paris, DEYROLLE.

Open since 1831, their collections of thousands of butterflies, rare insects, stuffed animals from all over the world and minerals conserved by this world renowned institution were at best singed or at worst reduced to ashes. Butterfly wings are fire resistant.

These photographs testifies to the return of the natural process of fading and destruction that awaits all creatures. A process that was interrupted by man in his attempt to stop time.

Martin d'Orgeval was born in 1973 in Paris, where he lives and works.
Currently on exhibition at the
SOME/THINGS Gallery
 16, Villa Gaudelet

By appointment.

SARKOZY........ Living in Style Paris

LIVING IN STYLE PARIS
Edited by Caroline Sarkozy
Photographs by Reto Guntli
Texts by Debra Derieux Matos

Published by  teNeues
219 pages
45€

Interior designer Caroline Sarkozy's (yes, they are related) new book, LIVING IN STYLE PARIS, takes us into the living quarters of Paris' most stylish homes of exceptional and rare beauty.

Opening doors of never before seen apartments and houses of Lenny Kravitz, By Terry, Jacques Grange, Diane von Furstenberg and many more.

Paris, filled with unique museums and historical monuments, cradles so much talent. Thus we discover in these homes, the same wealth of French creativity.

The French art of living mixes traditions and influences. These confidential residences, with an air of sobriety, simple elegance and discrete refinement awakens one's curiosity and visual sense.

Similar to the French poet Verlaine describing the flawless French women; never completely the same, and never completely different. Each through their taste and inspiration, these Parisian homes have created singular and spectacular refuges.

WHERE IT ALL STARTED! YSL

 YVES SAINT LAURENT
Spring/Summer 1967

Growing up in Jamaica as a young boy, an article by Time Magazine, brought Parisian Haute Couture to Kingston.

Inspired by the master couturier, who created the foundations to modern day dressing, I decided that Paris and fashion was my calling.
