Martin d'Orgeval........TOUCHED BY FIRE

TOUCHED BY FIRE
Editions Steidl
146 pages

On February 1, 2008 at 5 a.m., a fire ripped through the historic entomology and taxidery shop in the heart of Paris, DEYROLLE.

Open since 1831, their collections of thousands of butterflies, rare insects, stuffed animals from all over the world and minerals conserved by this world renowned institution were at best singed or at worst reduced to ashes. Butterfly wings are fire resistant.

These photographs testifies to the return of the natural process of fading and destruction that awaits all creatures. A process that was interrupted by man in his attempt to stop time.

Martin d'Orgeval was born in 1973 in Paris, where he lives and works.
